The Group

The Earth and Planetary Magnetism group is part of the Institute of Geophysics in the Department of Earth Sciences at ETH Zurich.

The goal of our research is to understand the generation and evolution of magnetic fields on Earth and other planets and to develop tools utilising magnetic fields to probe planetary structure and material properties. Please consult our Research page for more details.

We offer Master's and Bachelor's projects in experimental, observational, and numerical modelling aspects of magnetism and teach classes in basic geophysics, potential fields, geophysical fluid dynamics, and core dynamics. Please visit to the Education page for details.
